Chiang Mai,
popularly known as The Rose of the north, was founded by King Mengrai the great in 1296. The city is situated approximately 700 kilometers north of Bangkok on the Mae Ping River basin. The high altitude of 310 meters above sea level and the surrounding mountain ranges make the city cooler and drier than other cities in Thailand. The average temperature from late October to mid-February is 21 C. Today Chiang Mai is the economic, communication, cultural, and tourism center of Northen Thailand. With its own local language, architectural style, and tradition, Chiang Mai is a very unique and charming city. Chiang Mai not only has a warm hospitality but also provides several choices of unique and attractive trips. We recommend you visit Doi Suthep, a very peaceful mountain, to view a beautiful Wat Prathad Temple and the Royal Winter Palace; or, you may enjoy other exciting places such as the elephant at work, orchid farm, and snake show. For anyone who loves shopping, a wide variety of hand crafted items will make your visit a memorable experience at Ban Tawai, Borsarng, and San Kampaeng Village. In the evening, you can visit the colorful Night Bazaar and try a 'Kantoke Dinner'- the northern traditional dishes accompanied by delightful folk dances. Let Chiang Mai fascinates you with the traditional charm and hospitality. For more information, contact www.tat.or.th
